The Muhlenberg football team will open the NCAA Division III Tournament with a home game against MIT on Saturday, November 23, at noon.
Â
The Mules finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record, defeating Lehigh Valley rival Moravian, 52-7, in yesterday's finale. The win clinched the program's second undefeated regular season and its first outright Centennial Conference championship since 2008.Â
Â
Should the Mules defeat MIT, they would host the winner of the game between Brockport and Western New England on Saturday, November 30.
Â
The NCAA Tournament bid is the ninth for Muhlenberg, all since 2002. Last season, the Mules defeated Delaware Valley and Randolph-Macon to reach the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time.
Including bowl games, the Mules have earned 16 postseason berths in the last 20 seasons. Prior to 2000, they had not played in a postseason game since 1946.Â
Â
MIT (7-2) tied WPI for first place in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference, earning the league's automatic bid by virtue of a 28-22 head-to-head win. The Engineers are making their second straight NCAA appearance against a CC team; last year they lost to Johns Hopkins, 49-0, in the first round.
Â
MIT went 1-1 in 2014 in its only other NCAA Tournament appearance, defeating Husson 27-20 in overtime before falling to Wesley, 59-0.
