Less than 24 hours after reaching the career milestone of 3,000 assists,
Shannon Hubert added another noteworthy accomplishment during the Muhlenberg volleyball team's home split.
Hubert became the program's all-time assists leader by recording a total of 77 in a loss to Franklin & Marshall and a win against SUNY Cortland. She now has 3,101, topping the previous mark of 3,071 set by Laura Funsten 17 years ago.
Classmate
Kelly Tornetta totaled 18 kills in the two matches to move to within six of 1,000 for her career.
The Mules (9-3, 0-1) got off to a quick start against Franklin & Marshall in their Centennial Conference opener, hitting .611 in winning the first set, 25-11, but the Diplomats stormed back to take the next three sets.
Muhlenberg did the coming back vs. SUNY Cortland, taking the final three sets after dropping the first. The fourth set was tied 18-18 before the Mules took control with a 6-0 run that featured back-to-back service aces by Tornetta. Hubert finished off the match not with an assist, but with a kill.
Sophomore
Maya Illovsky topped 20 digs in both matches, with 21 vs. F&M and 22 vs. Cortland.
Junior
Madison Forrest, who had never reached double figures in kills prior to Friday night's Carnegie Mellon match, got there for the second time in as many days, with 11 in the Cortland match. Junior
Tara Register narrowly missed a double-double vs. Cortland, finishing with 9 kills and 10 digs.
The Mules are 2-0 this season against teams coached by program alums, having defeated Stockton, coached by Allison (Verduin) Walker '00, and Cortland, coached by Nicole (Goscilo) Wentz '98.
