The Muhlenberg football team has named its four captains for the 2018 season: junior linebacker
Mickey Kober, senior quarterback
Matt Gibbon, senior offensive tackle
Kyle Oprisko and senior safety
Luke Wiley (pictured left to right above).
Â
Kober has been a starter on defense for the Mules since his freshman year. This past fall, he racked up 65 total tackles, along with two interceptions, and was named to the All-Centennial Conference second team. In the Asa S. Bushnell Bowl win versus Carnegie Mellon, Kober tailed seven total tackles and picked off two passes. He ranked second on the team in tackles, a feat that he also accomplished during his freshman season.
Â
Gibbon appeared in six games for the Mules in 2017, throwing for 405 yards and three touchdowns on 38-for-57 passing. On the ground, Gibbon ran for 83 total yards and another touchdown. He made his first career start against Wilkes, completing 11 of 12 passes in a 62-19 win. In two varsity seasons, Gibbon has a career completion percentage of .699.
Â
Oprisko has been a staple on the Muhlenberg offensive line for the past two seasons. After playing most of his freshman year with the JV roster, Oprisko has started all 22 games the last two years, earning All-CC honors both seasons, including a first-team nod in 2017. He has started at right guard, right tackle and left tackle for an offense that has averaged nearly 200 rushing yards per game since the start of the 2016 season.
Â
Wiley has been a dominant force on the defensive side of the ball for the Mules since his freshman year, earning All-CC honorable mention twice. He enters his senior season with career totals of 129 tackles, six interceptions and six pass breakups. This past season, he ranked eighth on the team with 44 total tackles.
Muhlenberg recorded its eighth straight winning season in 2017, going 8-3 to earn a postseason berth for the 14th time in the last 18 years. The Mules are scheduled to open the 2018 campaign with a home game against Dickinson on September 8.
