Women's Basketball Reaches 21 Wins

The Muhlenberg women's basketball team returned to its winning ways, defeating Bryn Mawr 71-36 at home.
 
With the victory, the Mules reached 21 wins in the season for the 10th time in program history. The Mules had already clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference semifinals, and with the victory, they locked themselves into the second seed in next weekend's tournament. Muhlenberg will face third-seed Haverford in the semifinal.
 
Thirteen different Mules scored a point in the victory, with senior Rachel Plotke leading the way with 12 points. Plotke made all four of her three-pointers, moving her into fourth in CC history in made three-pointers (234). She needs nine more three-pointers to move into second on the CC all-time list.
 
Freshman Ny Thomas also reached double figures with 10 points. Sophomore Madison Kirchofer finished with seven points and a team-high seven rebounds. Sophomore Emilie Benton and freshman JoJo Pierick each made two three-pointers, and junior Carley Hamilton pulled down six rebounds to go with five points.
 
Senior Chelsea Gary moved into 10th in Muhlenberg history in rebounds (623) while also surpassing 150 career blocks. She rejected two shots to give her an even 50 for the season.
 
Muhlenberg made six three-pointers in the first period, with Benton's second triple of the quarter putting her team up 21-12. Layups from Thomas (pictured above) and Gary later extended the Mule lead to 13 at 27-14.
 
Thomas then scored five of the next 10 Muhlenberg points during a 10-0 run to start the second period. A Kirchofer jumper off an assist by Thomas staked Muhlenberg with a 26-point lead at halftime.
 
The Mules then made their first two shots of the second half to quickly gain a 30-point lead they would hold throughout the second half.
 
Muhlenberg, who came into the night ranked 11th in Division III in field-goal percentage defense, allowed Bryn Mawr to shoot only 24.6 percent from the field.
 
The win was Muhlenberg's fifth this season by at least 35 points.
