The Muhlenberg women's basketball team celebrated the careers of its seniors before defeating McDaniel, 63-53, in its regular season finale.
Â
Two of the four seniors scored in double figures to help push the Mules to 22 wins for the sixth time in program history. Muhlenberg had already clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference semifinals, and the team will play Haverford in the semifinal hosted at Gettysburg on Friday.
Â
Senior
Rachel Plotke shot 80 percent from the floor (8-10) and made five three-pointers to lead Muhlenberg with 22 points. She now has 238 career three-pointers, one shy of third on the Centennial Conference all-time list.
Â
Senior
Chelsea Gary also scored in double figures, totaling 14 points to go with six rebounds. She moved into ninth on the all-time Muhlenberg rebounds list (629).
Â
Juniors
Sara Dilly and
Carley Hamilton led the team with seven rebounds apiece, with Hamilton contributing eight points and Dilly scoring seven. Senior
Christina Manning played strong defense while adding seven points, four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore
Ashley Polera dished out seven assists and grabbed five rebounds.
Â
Gary scored four straight points as the Mules pushed out to a 9-2 lead to start the game. Manning then made one of her two three-pointers after a Green Terror (12-13, 10-10 CC) basket, and the Mules stretched their advantage to 16-7 after one quarter.
Â
The Mules extended the lead to 29-15 after two straight Plotke triples, and a jumper from junior
Amanda Morello sent the two teams into halftime with Muhlenberg up 31-19.
Â
The Green Terror made a run to cut the Mule lead to seven, but three points from Dilly and two more Plotke threes put the Muhlenberg advantage back to double-digits, which the Mules kept the rest of the way.
Â
The four Muhlenberg seniors, including
Brandi Vallely, have combined for 3,641 points, 1,581 rebounds and 919 assists over their four years. The quartet as a class is 88-22, representing the fourth most victories of any Muhlenberg senior class.
