Senior
Nick Rindock scored seven points in the final two minutes of Muhlenberg men's basketball's comeback effort, but Dickinson held on at the end to win 64-61.
Â
With his team trailing 59-52, Rindock drove to the hoop and sank a turnaround jumper and then hit a floater in the lane to bring the Mules (7-11, 5-6 CC) within three with 1:45 remaining. The Red Devils (10-8, 6-5 CC) added a free throw to go back up by two possessions, but Rindock made another strong drive to the basket and converted a layup while fouled. The senior finished the "and-1" with a free throw to make it 60-59.
Â
Dickinson missed a three-pointer on its next trip down but gathered the offensive rebound. The Mules fouled to force the Red Devils to the charity stripe, where they made both free throws. Dickinson then forced a Muhlenberg turnover on the next play and two more free throws put the game out of reach despite a
Matt Gnias layup with 0.4 seconds left.
Â
RIndock finished the game with 21 points and nine rebounds to lead Muhlenberg in both categories. He is now 41 points away from scoring his 1,000th of his career and he eclipsed 400 career rebounds (406).
Â
Gnais added 12 points and three assists, and junior
Brendan Hughes drained three shots from behind the arc to finish with nine points. Senior
JeanLee Baez contributed six points and six rebounds, and both freshman
Spencer Duke and senior
Owen McLeod (pictured above) collected five rebounds.
Â
The Mules had the advantage early in the game, with two free throws from junior
Erik Werheim and a Gnias triple putting the Mules up by seven. Dickinson climbed back to within one point to make it 19-18 before consecutive triples from Hughes and Rindock increased Muhlenberg's advantage back to seven.
Â
The Red Devils fought back to take the lead, 31-30, and took their one-point advantage into halftime. Another Hughes three tied the game again at 38, but Dickinson then outscored the Mules 12-4 over the next five minutes to build up its lead before the final comeback push.
Â
The Mules tied their season-low by committing only seven turnovers and forced the Red Devils into 11 turnovers.
