The Muhlenberg men's basketball team played uphill all night, and despite rallying to take a late lead, fell at Lancaster Bible, 72-67, in its final non-conference game of the season.
Senior
Owen McLeod scored a season-high 15 points for the Mules (7-10). Sophomore
Matt Gnias (13 points) and senior
Nick Rindock (11) also scored in double figures.Â
Rindock's three three-pointers included the 100th of his career. He is the 17th Muhlenberg player to reach the century mark.
The Mules trailed 9-2 three minutes into the game but rallied to draw even at 25 on a basket by senior
JeanLee Baez with 7:17 left to go in the half. The Chargers (13-4) responded with a 9-1 run to go ahead by eight, and again Muhlenberg came back, tying the score at 37-all on McLeod's three with 10.5 seconds to play.
Lancaster Bible scored the first six points of the second half and opened up its biggest lead, 60-51, at the 6:41 mark. The Mules then went on a 10-0 run, taking their first lead on a jump hook by junior
Erik Werheim with 4:16 left.
Five straight points by Rindock, on a pair of free throws and a three-pointer, gave Muhlenberg its biggest lead, 66-62, with just over three minutes to play. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Chargers reeled off the next eight points.
Trailing 70-67, the Mules had a chance to tie in the closing seconds, but a three-pointer missed the mark.Â
Senior
Nigel Long (pictured above) played a season-high 29 minutes and scored six points. Freshman
Spencer Duke pulled down a career-high eight rebounds and blocked two shots.
