The Muhlenberg men's soccer team earned a hard-fought point in battling nationally ranked Haverford to a 0-0 draw.
Coming into the match, the Fords (6-1-2, 1-1-1 CC) were ranked 14th by D3soccer.com and 23rd in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The tie between the two Centennial Conference rivals is the fifth in the series and the first since 2013's scoreless draw.
Both defenses stood rigid despite chances for each offense to score, as the two teams combined for 29 shots. The Mules (2-4-2, 0-2-1 CC) led the way in the first half with six shot opportunities to Haverford's four, but the script flipped in the second half as Haverford pushed to score with four shots in the final eight minutes. Cameron Miller and
Mark Winter (pictured above) blocked three of the Fords' shots to keep the game scoreless.
Haverford took the only three shots of the first overtime but came away empty as Muhlenberg junior goalkeeper
Jordan Schreer stopped a last-second shot to force a second extra period.
Muhlenberg had its best scoring chances in the second overtime as it pushed to secure a game-winner. Freshman
Victor Jacobs came within inches of a goal midway through the period, attempting a shot from just beyond the goalie box that hit the crossbar and bounced down in front of the goal line. Miller followed with a rebound shot that sailed high of the net.
Haverford made one last effort in the final minute, but Schreer pressured the shot into missing the net wide to the right.
Schreer finished with three saves in earning his second shutout of the season.
The Mules extended their streak of not allowing a first-half goal to six matches, having not allowed a score in their last 333 first-half minutes.
