The Muhlenberg men's soccer team played a defensive battle with nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall before surrendering a late goal in a 1-0 loss.
The first Centennial Conference match of the season for both teams started with each having limited opportunities in the first half with only three combined shots on goal. The Mules (2-2-1) continued to battle deep into the second half and the two teams looked to be heading to overtime. The Diplomats, ranked 22nd in the United Soccer Coaches Division III poll and fourth in the Mid-Atlantic region, broke through with a goal in the 88th minute off a corner kick.
Junior goalkeeper
Jordan Schreer made four of his five saves in the second half as the Mules fought to keep the Diplomats off the board.
Sophomore
Pete Luther had Muhlenberg's best scoring opportunity when he sent a header in the first half toward the goal, but the F&M keeper saved the shot.
Four of the last five matches between Muhlenberg and Franklin & Marshall have been decided by one goal, with overtime required in two of those contests.
