The Muhlenberg women's soccer team gave nationally ranked Arcadia all it could handle before falling, 3-2, on a last-minute goal.
The Knights (4-1) earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament last year and were ranked 20th in the Division III preseason poll. They had not allowed more than one goal in a home game since 2014.
The Mules (2-2) jumped on top midway through the first half when senior
Carly DeNigris dribbled through the midfield and sent a long pass ahead to sophomore
Sarah Hunter (pictured above), who beat the charging goalie to the ball and shot it into the left side of the net for her third career goal.
Trailing at halftime for the first time this season, Arcadia drew even on a penalty kick in the first minute of the second half and took its first lead with 26:51 to play.
Muhlenberg turned up the pressure in the final 15 minutes, and its hard work was rewarded when sophomore
Casarah Morales netted the tying goal. Sophomore
Alyssa Rose sent a through ball down the center of the field to Morales, who left-footed a shot into the net with just 3:27 on the clock.
The game appeared to be headed to overtime, but Arcadia scored the winning goal off a corner kick with 33 seconds to play.
