The Muhlenberg women's soccer team grinded its way into overtime with its Lehigh Valley rival Moravian before succumbing to a goal and a 1-0 defeat.
 
The Mule defense stood tough against six different Moravian opportunities in the second period and three more shots in the first two and a half minutes of overtime. A Greyhound corner kick at 92:20 resulted in two shots for Moravian that Muhlenberg goalkeeper Libby Juliano saved, but a third Moravian shot trickled into the goal to end the match.
 
The Muhlenberg-Moravian match has been decided by one goal in five of the last six meetings, with three of those matches going into overtime.
 
Muhlenberg senior Carly DeNigris took the only two shots on goal in the first half, both of which were saved. DeNigris also had a scoring opportunity in the second half, and junior Sarah Theurer and sophomore Emily Cannavale each had their second half shots saved by the Moravian keeper.
 
Juliano made six saves in her second match this season, including three stops in the final 10 minutes of the contest.
 
With volleyball earning a win over Moravian earlier in the night, Muhlenberg is now even in the Matte Award standings for 2017-18 at 1-1. Muhlenberg has outright won the Matte Award in each of the last three years and has won or shared the award in 13 of the last 14 years. The next scheduled Matte Award contest is a women's tennis match Tuesday hosted at Muhlenberg.
