For the first time in its 34-year history, the Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team is ranked in the top 20 in Division III.
The Mules entered the
Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll at No. 20 following their 8-7 upset of then-No. 1 Gettysburg.
The Bullets, who also lost to The College of New Jersey during the week, slipped to No. 5 in the poll and were replaced by another Centennial Conference team at the top. Franklin & Marshall is the new No. 1 team; the Mules are scheduled to play the Diplomats on April 29 in their final game of the regular season.
Muhlenberg received votes in the national poll in 2009, 2014 and 2016 but had never cracked the top 20.
The Mules are 7-1, with their lone loss coming in the season opener to 12th-ranked Messiah. Since then, they have won seven in a row, outscoring their opponents by an average of more than nine goals, to tie the school record for consecutive wins they set last season.
The team will put its new ranking to the test and aim to break the school record for longest winning streak when it travels to Haverford for a Wednesday evening game.Â
