The Muhlenberg baseball team recorded its first shutout since the 2014 season in defeating Albright, 4-0.
Â
The Mules (6-7) scored three runs in the first frame and then rode a strong start on the mound by freshman
Ryan Kaverick to win their second straight game. Kaverick
(pictured above) scattered only five hits and one walk over seven innings and struck out six in his second career start.
Â
Senior
Ryan Banks threw the final two innings to complete the shutout. He collected a critical strikeout with Albright runners on first and second and none out in the ninth, one of two punch-outs for him in the game.
Â
Senior
Thomas Yohe led the offense with a 3-for-4 day. His single in the first was mishandled by the leftfielder, allowing two of the three runs in Muhlenberg's first-inning rally to score.
Â
Freshman
Brenden Weiss singled home the fourth Mule run in the sixth inning for his first career RBI. He finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate.
Â
Seniors
John Icaza and
Robbie Hopes each collected two hits as well, with Hopes knocking his fourth double of the season over the left fielder's head in the seventh inning.
Â
Sophomore
Matt Riebesell singled home sophomore
Chris Grillo in the first to earn his team-best 16th RBI of the season. He also threw two runners out trying to steal, including one to get the second out in the ninth inning on a double steal attempt by the Lions (6-6).
Â
Muhlenberg as a team collected 11 hits, its fifth game this season and second consecutive with at least 10 hits. The Mules are 4-1 this season when gathering at least 10 hits as a team.
