Facing another strong opponent, the Muhlenberg men's soccer team applied early pressure before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat to Gettysburg.
The Bullets (9-2, 4-1 CC) came into the match ranked 23rd in the D3soccer.com national poll. The match marked the fourth straight game for the Mules (2-7-2, 0-4-1 CC) against a nationally ranked opponent.
Muhlenberg again held the opposition scoreless through the first half, extending its streak to 10 consecutive matches and 468 straight first-half minutes. The Mules stopped nine Gettysburg opportunities in the period, including one where sophomore back
Zach Cimring blocked a potential goal as the last line of defense.
Junior goalkeeper
Jordan Schreer made a save on another Bullet shot to begin the second half. Gettysburg's next opportunity, however, resulted in a goal with 28 minutes remaining.
The Mules pressed to score an equalizer, with corner kicks in the 70th and 75th minutes creating shot opportunities. Sophomore
Kevin Hagan's shot on goal was saved, and senior
Anthony Carracino later attempted from 18 yards out, but the shot sailed high.
Junior
Kevin Irving (pictured above) made Muhlenberg's last attempt, firing a left-footed shot that was on target but a bit high.
Gettysburg added an insurance goal with 6:38 remaining and held Muhlenberg off the rest of the way.
