Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Ties Regionally Ranked McDaniel

The Muhlenberg women's soccer team played stout defense in forcing a scoreless tie with regionally ranked McDaniel.

The Mules (4-7-4, 2-3-3 CC) contained the third-best scoring team in the CC and the ninth-ranked squad in the Mid-Atlantic region with strong backline play from junior Makenzie O'Brien and sophomores Madison Ingling, Casarah Morales and Karolyn Kawa (pictured above) along with another strong performance from sophomore goalkeeper Libby Juliano.

Muhlenberg also picked up a critical point in its chase for the final CC playoff spot. With nine points, the Mules sit behind Dickinson and Haverford, who are tied for fifth with 13 points and play later in the night. If Muhlenberg wins its last two CC games and Dickinson and Haverford tie in their match and each lose their remaining two contests, Muhlenberg would earn the fifth and final playoff spot.

Juliano made 10 saves, her fourth match this season with double-digit stops. Juliano turned away two shots in the first period, five in the second and three more in the overtime periods. She now has 70 saves and four shutouts while lowering her goals-against average to 0.60 for the season.

Muhlenberg's first good scoring opportunity came 16 minutes into the match when sophomore Danni Steigerwald unleashed a shot that was saved by the Green Terror (11-4-1, 6-2-1) goalie. Steigerwald also attempted the Mules' second shot on goal late in the first overtime period.

The Mules pushed to score to start the second overtime, as O'Brien possessed the ball and fired a quick shot toward the left side of the net 43 seconds into the period, but the McDaniel goalie made the save. Juliano made her 10th save of the match two minutes later, and the Muhlenberg defense pressured McDaniel's final two shots to miss the target late in the extra period.

Muhlenberg has now played seven overtime matches this season, with all but one reaching a second extra period. The four ties matches the school record set in 2008 for most in a season.
