The Muhlenberg men's soccer team scored three goals, including two from junior
Kevin Irving, for the second straight match to win 3-0 over Ursinus.
The Mules (4-7-2, 1-4-1 CC) picked up their first Centennial Conference victory of the season in a game they controlled from start to finish. Muhlenberg outshot the Bears 24-9 in the match and did not allow a shot on goal during the second half.
Irving got his team off to a fast start with a goal 5:15 into the contest. The midfielder collected a loose ball from just beyond the goalie box and fired a line drive across the goal into the back right corner of the net.
Muhlenberg took its 1-0 lead into the halftime break before adding a second goal in the 59th minute. Junior
Brian Heckman launched a set ball from midfield that the Bears (2-10-1, 0-6 CC) deflected out. Senior
Anthony Carracino collected the ball and headed it back up to junior
Shaun Bartholomew, who drilled the ball into the net for his second goal of the season.
Irving added his second goal of the game in the 71
st minute, dribbling through the middle of the Ursinus defense before taking a left-footed shot that got past the diving goalkeeper. He now has two straight multi-goal games, the first Mule to accomplish the feat since 2010.
Junior
Jordan Schreer saved three first-half shots to earn his third shutout of the season.
The Mules also extended their streak to 12 consecutive first-halves not allowing a goal. The last first-half score the Mules allowed came 558 first-half minutes ago, in their first match of the season against Lebanon Valley.
