The Muhlenberg men's basketball team built up a healthy first-half lead and had three players score in double figures on its way to a 68-61 Centennial Conference victory at Gettysburg.

The Mules (8-4, 4-3) trailed to start the game but slowly built up a double-digit lead that held most of the second half. A late run from Gettysburg however dropped the lead down to as little as five with 16 seconds to go.

Senior
Jon Schreer, earlier in the day named a
Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar Athlete, collected the following inbounds pass and was fouled. He made two crucial free throws and the Mules made two more defensive stops to win the game.

Schreer, who finished with 12 points and four assists, was joined in double figures by junior
Nick Rindock and senior
John Hunter. Rindock led the Mules with 15 points and three steals, while Hunter recorded his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Mules took their first lead after Hunter and Rindock converted layups to put the Mules up 14-10 midway through the first half. Muhlenberg then went on an 8-3 run with freshman
Matt Gnias leading the fast break. The guard scored a layup himself before dishing the ball underneath to senior
Brandon LaRose for an easy two that pushed the lead to 22-13.

Muhlenberg extended the advantage to double digits on a jumper from the elbow from junior
Owen McLeod late in the half. Schreer made his second three-pointer of the half to beat the buzzer and sent the teams to halftime with the Mules up 31-20.

The two teams traded baskets to start the second half. Muhlenberg maintained its double-digit advantage until the Bullets (4-10, 3-4) hit a three with 12 minutes left to cut the deficit to nine. The margin sunk to as low as eight before consecutive triples from Rindock and McLeod helped put Muhlenberg up 56-44.

Junior
JeanLee Baez came close to a double-double, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds along with three assists. McLeod
(pictured above) also scored nine points and Gnias racked up four assists.

Muhlenberg shot 43.3 percent from the floor in the game and held Gettysburg to 22.2 percent shooting from long range. The Mules also outrebounded the Bullets 45-41.
