Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Edged in OT

The Muhlenberg women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead thanks to two players scoring their first career goals, but Scranton was able to score two late goals and the overtime winner to beat the Mules 3-2.

The Mules (2-4) stood tough on defense through the first half and the majority of the second half and took advantage of their early chances on goal.

Freshman back Casarah Morales scored her first career goal to give Muhlenberg a 1-0 advantage in the 19th minute. Taking a free kick from close to midfield, Morales launched a ball that bounced inside the 18-yard box and over the Scranton goalie's outstretched hand. The Royals' keeper raced to grab the ball, but it crossed the goal line to give Muhlenberg the score.

Muhlenberg held the 1-0 lead through halftime and withstood a flurry of Royals (5-1-1) shots to start the second half. Scranton fired off five shots within the first 10 minutes of the period and the Mules kept the ball out of the net, with freshman back Karolyn Kawa booting one shot out at the 53' mark to prevent an otherwise game-tying goal.

Muhlenberg scored their second goal of the match on their second shot attempt of the second half. Freshman midfielder Alyssa Rose connected with fellow freshman midfielder Meghan Allen (pictured above) on a pass that sent Allen streaking down the right side of the field. Allen was able to fire off a shot around the Scranton defender that also got past the outstretched keeper for her first career goal, giving the Mules a 2-0 lead with about 22 minutes left.

Freshman goalkeeper Libby Juliano saved the next six Scranton shots on goal before the Royals' Jamie Hreniuk broke through to make it 2-1 with less than five minutes remaining. Less than two minutes later, Hreniuk scored again to tie the match and eventually send it to overtime.

Scranton attempted the only four shots of the overtime period, with their final shot scoring the game-winner with less than thirty seconds left.

Juliano made play after play on Scranton's shots before giving up the late goals, making saves on her first 14 shots on goal faced. She played all 99 minutes in net for Muhlenberg.
