The Muhlenberg women's soccer team played strongly against undefeated Centennial Conference rival McDaniel but could not overcome an early deficit, falling 1-0 in their conference opener.
 
The Mules (2-3, 0-1) kept the Green Terror (5-0, 1-0) off the scoreboard for the majority of the first half thanks to strong defensive play. While only attempting three shots in the first half, the defense withstood five shots and five corner kick opportunities from the Green Terror to keep the game scoreless.
 
It was the sixth corner attempt for McDaniel that proved costly for the Mules, with Christina Wroblewski scoring the goal on a header in the 40th minute.
 
Muhlenberg had a breakaway opportunity early in the second half, with sophomore Meghan MacAskill racing down the field with the ball in a three-on-two advantage. MacAskill decided to take the shot herself from just outside the box but the McDaniel keeper was able to corral the ball for the save.
 
Midway through the second half, the Mules' best opportunity to tie the game came when freshman Danni Steigerwald fired a shot toward the right side that nicked off the post to prevent an otherwise game-tying goal.
 
Freshman Marissa D'Alessandro played all 90 minutes in goal for the Mules and recorded four saves.
