Video Recap

The Muhlenberg volleyball team opened up Centennial Conference play in grand style, sweeping defending champion McDaniel in the first of two home matches.

The Mules finished the day with a 3-0 sweep of Kean to improve to 9-3 on the season.

Freshman Maggie Enestvedt (pictured above) led Muhlenberg with 24 kills on the day, including a match-high 13 against McDaniel. She also recorded a career-high 16 digs in the McDaniel match.

Sophomore Erica Schultz hit .500 on the strength of a career-high 10 kills vs. McDaniel, while classmate Kelly Tornetta knocked down 15 kills and hit .379 against Kean. Freshman Tara Register totaled 15 kills with only two errors in the two matches.

Sophomore Shannon Hubert ran the offense with a total of 64 assists, increasing her career total to 996. Senior Elizabeth Garrison pulled up 17 digs in each match.

The first set of the McDaniel match was tight, with six ties, the last at 17-17. Back-to-back kills by Enestvedt and Tornetta gave the Mules the lead for good, and Enestvedt finished off the set at 25-22 with a kill.

A 6-0 run behind the serving of Hubert, including back-to-back aces, allowed Muhlenberg to open up an 18-9 lead in the second set en route to a 25-13 win. The Mules led the third set 21-20 before closing out the match with four straight points. Hubert's diving dig set up a back-row kill from Register on match point.

Kean's three-set sweep of McDaniel in the middle contest set up the final match. Muhlenberg trailed only once in the three sets (7-6 in the first) against a Cougar team that received an ECAC Tournament berth last year. Enestvedt finished off a 5-for-7 hitting performance in the opening set with a kill on set point, and Tornetta accounted for seven of her kills in the second set alone.

Ahead 19-14 in the third set, Muhlenberg closed out the match with six straight kills.
