The Muhlenberg volleyball team faced tough opposition in the second day of the 19th annual Buttermaker Tournament, falling to both Ithaca and Scranton.
After losing to eventual tournament champion Ithaca 0-3 in their first match, the Mules (5-3) rallied in the second match to come back from down 2-1 and force a fifth set against Scranton. Muhlenberg however could not finish the job, eventually falling to the Royals 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 12-25, 15-8.
Sophomore
Kelly Tornetta earned All-Tournament Team honors for the Mules, leading the team in kills with nine against Ithaca and notching 15 kills on 30 attempts versus Scranton. Tornetta finished the tournament with a team-high 53 kills in total, including a career-high 19 in the
Muhlenberg victory over Cabrini Friday. She also totaled 27 digs, four service aces, four assists, three block assists and one solo block for the tournament.
Senior
Elizabeth Garrison and freshman
Maggie Enestvedt each recorded double-digit digs against Ithaca, with Garrison scoring 13 digs and Enestvedt finishing with 10 digs.
Junior
Caroline Erb set career highs in both kills and digs against Scranton, finishing with 17 kills and 11 digs for her first double-double. Sophomore
Shannon Hubert finished with 46 assists and 16 digs, while Garrison had a match-high 20 digs.
Muhlenberg held Scranton to a .145 hitting percentage while hitting .222 as a team. The Mules also notched 10 total blocks against the Royals, with sophomore
Erica Schultz scoring two solo blocks and four block assists to lead the team.
