The pitching of sophomore
Hayley Peterson and the hitting of sophomore
Karissa Astrella gave the Muhlenberg softball team a 2-0 win at Ursinus in the first game of a Centennial Conference doubleheader. The Bears came back to take the nightcap, 9-1.
Peterson allowed just four hits and struck out three in pitching her second shutout of the season. The Bears (13-17, 5-9) hit only five balls out of the infield the entire game.
The Mules (14-20, 7-7) gave Peterson all the offense she would need in the top of the first inning on a two-out, two-run double by Astrella
(pictured above). Senior
Taylor Trifiolis also doubled in the inning for her 30th career two-bagger.
Sophomore
Paige Seitz had two of Muhlenberg's six hits in the game.
The second game got off to a similarly promising start when senior
Nicole Iannarone led off the first with a single, advanced to second on a groundout and came in on a two-out double by sophomore
Hanna Caiola.
Ursinus tied the score in the bottom of the second and pushed across multiple runs in each of the next three innings to give the Mules their ninth straight doubleheader split.
