Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Wins Second Game for Split

Sophomore Haley Fedak pitched a five-hitter and freshman Kristina Qualben set a school record as the Muhlenberg softball team earned a split of its Centennial Conference night doubleheader at Dickinson with a 6-3 win in the second game.

Fedak (pictured above) tied her season high with six strikeouts in picking up her second straight win. After allowing a two-run homer in third, she allowed only one run the rest of the way.

The Mules (13-19, 6-6) trailed 2-1 before Qualben led off the top of the fifth with her fourth home run of the season, breaking the school record for homers by a freshman.

Later in the inning, senior Amie DeFeo singled in the go-ahead run, but the Red Devils (13-21, 7-7) scored in the bottom of the fifth to knot the score at 3-3.

Muhlenberg broke the tie on an infield error in the sixth and added two insurance runs in the seventh with a two-out rally. With a runner on first and two out, sophomore Hanna Caiola singled for her third hit of the game and her sixth of the twinbill. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch, and sophomore Karissa Astrella drove them in with a single.

Sophomore Paige Seitz went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

One bad inning was the Mules' downfall in the opener, a 10-5 loss. Dickinson scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to open up a 7-1 lead, but Muhlenberg came back to make the game interesting.

A two-run single by sophomore Amelia Shelley capped a three-run fifth that made the score 7-4. The Mules scored another run in the sixth and had the tying runs in scoring position when the inning ended. The Red Devils put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Caiola had three hits and junior Sarah Merlo added two.
