The Muhlenberg softball team took a break from Centennial Conference play to split a doubleheader at Misericordia.
The Mules (11-17) rode the pitching of sophomores
Hayley Peterson and
Haley Fedak to a 2-1 win in the opener before dropping the nightcap, 4-0.
Peterson pitched four scoreless innings in Game 1, striking out two while allowing four hits. The reigning Centennial Conference pitcher of the week extended her personal winning streak to four; she has not allowed an earned run in her last 19 innings.
Fedak allowed hits to the first three batters she faced but none after that, working three innings to earn her first career save.
Muhlenberg did all its offensive damage in the fourth. Senior
Taylor Trifiolis and sophomore
Hanna Caiola led off the inning with back-to-back doubles to plate one run. After a bunt, freshman
Molly Plotkin came up as a pinch-hitter and brought in Caiola with a sacrifice fly. It was the first career RBI for Plotkin
(pictured above), and it proved to be the game-winning run.
The Mules managed only three hits in the second game and could not score despite loading the bases in the sixth.
Trifiolis went 3-for-5 in the twinbill to raise her season average to .446. The three hits moved her into the top 10 on the program's all-time hits list with 136 for her career.
