The Muhlenberg softball team erupted for eight runs in the top of the fifth inning to defeat Wesley, 9-1, and pick up its first win of the season on its third day in Clermont, Fla.
The Mules sent 13 batters to the plate in the big inning, with seniors
Nicole Iannarone and
Amie DeFeo Each reaching base twice.
Iannarone started the rally by walking on four pitches and raced to third on a double by DeFeo. Senior
Taylor Trifiolis brought both runners home with a single, breaking a 1-1 tie.
Sophomore
Hanna Caiola followed with a single, and two errors and a passed ball later, it was 6-1.
Later in the inning, sophomore
Paige Seitz and freshman
Allyson Sweeney delivered RBI singles. Iannarone capped the frame with an RBI single of her own.
Sophomore
Haley Fedak retured Wesley 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fifth to finish off the complete-game two-hitter. She struck out three and did not allow a hit after the first inning.
Muhlenberg began its Spring Break trip against some tough competition with games against Webster, Cornell College, Rochester, SUNY Oneonta and Lakeland. Cornell was 30-8 a year ago, Rochester finished 29-13 and played in the NCAA Tournament, and Oneonta won 25 games.

Kristina Qualben hit her first career home run, a two-run blast, in the Lakeland game.
