Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Grinds Out Road Win

In a tale of two completely different halves, the Muhlenberg women's basketball team rode a resurgent second-half comeback powered by clutch shooting to capture a 60-52 victory at Haverford.

Trailing by 11 points at halftime, the Mules (6-2, 4-1 CC) outscored the Fords (4-4, 2-2 CC) 44-25 in the second half while shooting 51.7 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from behind the arc. Junior Sara Dilly hit two three-pointers and scored eight of her 14 points in the fourth quarter to help give Muhlenberg a 46-45 lead and swing the momentum of the game.

The defense locked down on the Fords as well, holding them to seven field goals and 25.9 percent shooting in the second half. For the game, Muhlenberg coerced 20 Haverford turnovers, forcing two critical stops in the final minute to help maintain its lead.

The comeback started in the third period, as the Mules went on an 11-4 run to cut the Haverford lead to four on a Maggie Zerbe jumper. A three-pointer from the wing from junior Christina Manning tied the game at 36-36 heading into the final period.

Muhlenberg took its first lead since the first period when guard Brandi Vallely drained a jumper for the first points of the fourth quarter. After a Haverford triple changed the lead again, Dilly answered with a two-pointer to make it 40-39 Mules.

Two more Haverford three-pointers had Muhlenberg trailing once more. Dilly (pictured above) again delivered with two triples of her own, giving Muhlenberg the advantage with less than five minutes left.

Haverford tied the game one last time before junior Chelsea Gary swished a baseline jumper, making it 50-48. The Mules increased their lead to five with another Manning triple and never looked back, grinding out the final two minutes of game clock for the win.

Three Mules scored in double figures, led by Gary with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Dilly was perfect from both three-point land (2-2) and the free-throw line (4-4) in scoring her 14 points. She also finished with six rebounds and three assists.

Vallely poured in 12 points and led Muhlenberg with a game-high nine assists and five steals. Zerbe led the Mules with seven rebounds and contributed five points as well.

Muhlenberg thrived on second-chance opportunities, outscoring Haverford 17-7 in such instances while garnering 13 offensive rebounds compared to Haverford's eight.
