Two Headers Give Women's Soccer First CC Win

Jordan Scores Game-Winner

Sophomore forward Emily Jordan headed in the game-winning goal and assisted on another score as Muhlenberg women's soccer picked up a 2-1 victory at Washington for the team's first Centennial Conference win of the season.

The Mules (4-5-1, 1-2-1 CC) pushed the tempo offensively to begin play, scoring its first goal six minutes into the match. Muhlenberg then withstood a flurry of Shorewomen (5-5-1, 0-4 CC) shots before giving up a goal with 11 minutes left in the second half. Muhlenberg only needed two minutes after Washington's goal to net the game-winner.

A hard foul by Washington set Muhlenberg up with a free kick opportunity near midfield with 10 minutes remaining. Junior midfielder Carly DeNigris lofted the free kick deep into the box, finding Jordan for the header goal, her first score of the season.

Jordan played a big role in the Mules' first goal as well. She drew a foul along the far sideline to set up a free kick opportunity. Jordan crossed the ball into the box and freshman midfielder Alyssa Rose (pictured above) connected with a header to beat the keeper for her second goal of the season. Jordan picked up her second assist of the season on the score.

Freshman goalkeeper Marissa D'Alessandro made nine saves for the Mules, including a critical one-handed save in the 25th minute off a header and another diving stop with five minutes remaining to preserve the lead.

The Mules and the Shorewomen each attempted six corners in the match, but Washington outshot the Mules 17-9.
