The Muhlenberg women's soccer team challenged a regionally ranked Haverford squad and came away with a 0-0 tie after two overtimes.
The Mules (4-5-2, 1-2-2 CC) played stout defense throughout the match and did not allow the Fords (8-2-2, 3-1-1 CC), who are ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic region, a shot to win the match in either overtime period. Muhlenberg attempted the only shots of extra time in the first overtime period.
Two minutes into the first overtime, freshman midfielder
Alyssa Rose drew a hard foul just outside the box to set the Mules up with a free kick. Senior forward
Abby Lazofsky attempted the shot and hit it to the right but the Haverford goalkeeper was just able to get a hand on the ball to save the shot from going into the goal.
Six minutes later, the Mules pressed on offense again, with a cross into the box setting up freshman midfielder
Sarah Hunter (pictured above) for a header. Her shot also came close to going in but the goalie again made a one-handed save to preserve the tie.
Sophomore back
Makenzie O'Brien also attempted a shot in the first overtime that was blocked by the Haverford defense.
Freshman goalkeeper
Marissa D'Alessandro saved five shots for Muhlenberg, making three stops in the final 12 minutes of regulation to help send the match to overtime.
The draw is the third such outcome in the series, with the two schools previously tying in 2004 and 2011.
