Carly DeNigris scored a long-distance goal that tied the Muhlenberg women's soccer team's match at regionally ranked Swarthmore early in the second half, but the Garnet scored late to win 2-1 and snap the Mules' recent unbeaten streak.
The Mules (4-6-3, 1-3-3) held the Garnet (13-2, 6-2 CC), ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic region, scoreless in the first half before giving up two second-half tallies.
Swarthmore first scored in the 50th minute. Five minutes later, DeNigris possessed the ball on the left wing and booted the ball from close to 30 yards out over the Garnet keeper and into the back left corner of the net for her first goal of the season and the sixth of her career.
The Garnet headed in a goal in the 74th minute that proved the difference in the match. DeNigris took another shot on goal eight minutes later to try to tie the match again but it was saved.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first half, with the Mules defense preventing the Garnet from scoring on four shots in the final two minutes of the period. Freshman back
