Box ScoreThe Muhlenberg volleyball team opened up Centennial Conference play with a thrilling 3-1 win at McDaniel in a matchup of teams that faced off in the 2013 CC semifinals.
Except for a pair of Mule runs at the end of the second and fourth sets, neither team led by more than four points at any point in the 28-26, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20 match.
Junior
Allison Glass led Muhlenberg with 15 kills and 19 digs. Freshman
Kelly Tornetta added 12 kills, while senior
Sarah Weyhmuller knocked down 10 with only one error in 26 attempts.
Freshman
Shannon Hubert recorded a career-high 44 assists to go along with 11 digs. Junior
Elizabeth Garrison tied Glass with 19 digs.
The Mules (7-3, 1-0) led 20-16 in the first set before the Green Terror (7-2, 0-1) rallied for a 21-all tie. The teams traded the next 10 points before Muhlenberg claimed the set on a McDaniel service error followed by a service ace from senior
Joanne Josephson.
The Mules finished the second set on an 11-1 run to turn an 18-14 hole into a 25-19 win. Garrison served five straight service points during the run, and Glass had four kills - including the one that ended the set - and a block.
After McDaniel came from behind to take the third set, Muhlenberg staged another finishing run in the fourth. Hubert's kill with the score 15-15 gave the Mules the lead for good, and they closed out the match by scoring the final four points.
