The Muhlenberg volleyball team opened defense of its 2014 Buttermaker Tournament championship with convincing 3-0 sweeps of Moravian and Rowan.
The Mules (5-2) allowed more than 16 points in only one of the six sets in extending their winning streak to four.
"We're pushing ourselves really really hard to win it again this year and I think we had a great start today," said junior
Allison Glass, who led the Mules with 25 kills and hit .489 in the two matches, in a
video recap of the matches.
Glass had 12 kills and senior
Katherine Boll nine in Muhlenberg's second win against Moravian in six days. This one also gave Muhlenberg a 1-0 lead in the 2015-16 Matte Award standings. Freshman
Shannon Hubert recorded 19 assists and 12 digs, while senior
Chelsea Kaser had a match-high 17 digs to go along with seven assists.
The Mule defense held the Greyhounds to .021 hitting.
Muhlenberg hit a whopping .388 in the Rowan match, committing only eight attack errors. Glass (13), Boll (11) and senior
Sarah Weyhmuller (11) all hit double digits in kills, aided by the precise passing of Hubert (20 assists) and senior
Vanessa Pulice (17 assists). Junior
Elizabeth Garrison served five aces.
The Mules continue the
Buttermaker Tournament at noon on Saturday against Salisbury, which also swept Moravian and Rowan. The winner will play the winner of the other pool at 4:00 for the championship.
