Box ScoreThe Muhlenberg baseball team executed its hit-and-Pilrun game to even its record at 2-2 with a 7-1 win against York (Pa.).
The Mules banged out 13 hits, breaking open a close game with five runs in the last two innings. And freshman
Timmy Pilrun sparkled in his first start, pitching into the seventh inning without allowing a run against a strong Spartan squad that won 29 games and was nationally ranked for much of the season last year.
Pilrun
(pictured above) allowed seven hits and struck out six in his debut. One of his strikeouts came with a runner on third and the game scoreless in the fourth inning.
The southpaw got some help from senior centerfielder
Jimmy Cody, who threw out a runner trying to score from first on a double in the sixth. Pilrun exited with two runners on in the seventh, and senior
Austin Cush kept his record spotless by getting an inning-ending double play.
Cody hit a two-run double in the fifth, accounting for the only scoring in the first seven innings. RBI singles by seniors
Nick Plinio and
Chris Manfredonia were part of a three-run eighth that made it 5-0.
After York plated a run in the bottom of the eighth - the first earned run allowed by the Muhlenberg bullpen this year - the Mules extended their lead in the top of the ninth on a two-run single by senior
Nick Kennedy.
Senior
Kurt Johnson and sophomore
John Icaza had three hits apiece.
