Tallamy Named Player of the Year

Senior Leanna Tallamy of the Muhlenberg women's basketball team was named Pete Nevins Player of the Year at the final Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball luncheon of the 2014-15 season.

The award, which is named for the late East Stroudsburg sports information director and voted on by coaches and media members, is given to the top player from among seven area schools. Tallamy is the fourth Mule to earn the honor, following Susan Marchiano (2002), Kelly McKeon (2010) and Alexandra Chili (2012).

Senior Malique Killing was named to the men's team of the year for the second time at the luncheon.

Tallamy is averaging a team-leading 18.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game for 16-6 Muhlenberg. She also leads the Mules in field-goal and free-throw percentage and is second in blocked shots and tied for second in steals. She has led the team in scoring in a school-record 12 straight games and has 15 double-doubles on the season.

The three-time Centennial Conference player of the week leads the CC in rebounding and is third in scoring. A transfer from Gordon College, Tallamy has scored 956 points in only three years at Muhlenberg and 1,431 in her four-year college career.

"You hear coaches all the time say that a player is a Godsend to them, and Leanna certainly has been because I never recruited her. She was sent to me," said head coach Ron Rohn. "When she came to visit the summer when she was thinking of transferring, after five minutes I knew she was the kind of person I wanted on my team. She said to me, 'Coach, I just want to win.' She has improved so much over the three years. She's physically tough, she's mentally tough, and the one thing that she really wanted to do when she came to Muhlenberg we have done tremendously this year, and because of Leanna Tallamy we've won."

Malique KillingKilling is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the men's program with 1,887 points entering this week's final two regular-season games. He also holds the program record for career steals (172) and is second in both field goals and free throws, fourth in three-pointers and fifth in assists.

Only the second player in CC history to reach the milestones of 1,800 points and 300 assists, Killing is averaging 16.6 points (third in the CC) and 3.39 assists (fifth in the CC) this season. He is a career 83.1-percent free-throw shooter and will break the school record in that category if he maintains his average over the remaining games.

Killing (pictured right) is the lone senior on an 11-12 Mule squad that, with the majority of the roster made up of freshmen and sophomores, has experienced typical ups and downs this season.

"Just an unbelievable four-year run ... His freshman year in his very first game, he hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer, his third game he scored 30 points to lead us to a tournament championship," said head coach Scott McClary. "He's certainly been an absolute blessing to coach and a joy to watch play basketball. Perhaps what I'm most proud of and appreciative of is this year is that we knew it was going to be a challenge of a year for Malique as our only senior. He's handled that really well and I think it says an awful lot about how successful he'll be well beyond the court."
