Men's Basketball Turns Up Defense

Box Score

The Muhlenberg men's basketball team turned up the defense in the second half to break open a close game and defeat Haverford, 67-45, for its first Centennial Conference win of the season.

Junior Brandon LaRose and sophomore Nick Rindock led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points apiece, combining to go 11-of-16 from the field. Junior John Hunter (pictured above) added 10 points and seven rebounds.

A steal and layup by sophomore Kevin Miller with 8:22 left in the first half gave the Mules (3-3, 1-1) the lead for good, at 16-15. Muhlenberg led by as many as 10 points in the first half and took a six-point advantage into the locker room.

The Mules came out in the second half and held the Fords (1-4, 0-1) to one field goal in the first 11:55, going on a 23-6 run to open up a 54-31 lead. Muhlenberg eventually built its lead to as many as 27 points in cruising to the win.

The 45 points allowed were the fewest by the Mules in a CC game in six years. They held the Fords to 32-percent shooting for the game and limited the leading scorer in the CC to nine points - less than half his average.

Miller (six points) and senior Nick Melosky (four points) both gave Muhlenberg a big lift off the bench in the first half.
