Women's Basketball Breezes into Final

Box Score

Sophomore Brandi Vallely continued to make history, recording her second straight triple-double to lead the Muhlenberg women's basketball team past Hood, 82-50, in the first round of the Scotty Wood Tournament.

The Mules (2-0) advanced to the championship game for the 23rd straight year to face SUNY Cortland, a 62-53 winner against Delaware Valley.

Six days after notching the third triple-double in program history in the season-opening win at Moravian, Vallely amassed 14 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds for the fourth. In her first two career starts, Vallely has as many triple-doubles as all Muhlenberg players in the first 56 years of the team's existence.

Vallely, who broke a Scotty Wood Tournament record with her 12 assists, needed only 24 minutes for her triple-double and added five steals. She is the first player in Centennial Conference history with more than one triple-double.

Vallely was halfway to the triple-double in the first quarter alone, with six points, five assists and five rebounds in the first 10 minutes. The Mules led 22-7 after one and breezed the rest of the way.

All 13 Muhlenberg players who suited up scored. Freshman Amanda Morello made all five of her field goals to score a career-high 10 points in only eight minutes, and junior Maggie Zerbe (pictured above) netted a career-high nine points to go along with two of the Mules' eight blocked shots. Sophomore Christina Manning also scored nine.

Sophomore Chelsea Gary reached double figures in rebounds for the second straight game, helping Muhlenberg to a 53-35 edge on the boards.
