Volleyball Drops Two

Box Scores: Clarkson | Susquehanna

The Muhlenberg volleyball had a rough time on the second day of the Golden Knights Invitational, falling to host Clarkson in three sets and Susquehanna in four.

The Mules (14-7) led 10-8 early in the first set of the first match, but the 18th-ranked Golden Knights - who reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament last year - scored the next seven points and remained in control for the remainder of the match, winning 25-18, 25-14, 25-10.

Against Susquehanna, Muhlenberg was in danger of getting swept again before staging a dramatic rally. Down two sets and trailing 19-10 in the third, the Mules scored the next six points to make it close, then scored four straight points after trailing 23-21 to steal the set. Seniors Katherine Boll and Sarah Weyhmuller tied the set at 23-23 with back-to-back kills, and a pair of errors by the Crusaders forced a fourth set.

Muhlenberg trailed 19-10 again in the fourth set, but lightning didn't strike twice. Susquehanna finished out the match with a 25-15 win.

Weyhmuller and Glass led the Mules with nine kills apiece, while freshman Shannon Hubert recorded 16 assists, 13 digs and four aces. Senior Joanne Josephson had seven blocks.

Hubert was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 6.00 assists and 4.00 digs in three tournament matches.

Although the day didn't go well in the win/loss column, there was a record-breaking event: Senior Chelsea Kaser became the program's all-time leader with with 1,446 digs, breaking the mark of 1,434 that had stood since since 2009. Kaser was able to accomplish the feat despite missing time to injuries during her career.
