Guesseppe Rea

Guesseppe Rea

Former Wilkes University NCAA All-American Guesseppe Rea joined the Muhlenberg coaching staff in 2018.

A three-time MAC finalist and the 2015 East Regional champion, Rea serves as the assistant coach, while also working with the Lehigh Valley Olympic training center. He works with wrestlers across all weight classes but specializes in the lightweights.

Rea has been training with and competing for the LVWC RTC/Ecuador since his graduation from Wilkes. Rea is originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador, where he is a three-time Ecuador freestyle national champion and five-time Ecuador World Team Trials medalist (2017, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023). He was a 2021 Senior World Team member at 57 kg and earned a top 10 ranking in the world.

As a collegiate student-athlete, Rea was a four-year starter and earned NCAA All-America honors in 2015 at 125. He registered a 121-29 career record, ranking first in the Colonel record book for all-time victories. He was a four-time regional medalist and won the prestigious 82nd Wilkes Open championship in December 2014. 

Rea was ranked top 10 throughout his career and as high as No. 2 at 125 in the NWCA individual rankings.

Rea was an assistant coach at his alma mater in 2017-18 and played a major role in developing the lightweights, including 133-pound Division III national champion Matthew Grossmann.

A native of Stroudsburg, Pa., Rea was a District 11 AAA and NE Region runner up and a state qualifier for the Mounties. He graduated from Wilkes in 2017 with a degree in sociology and Spanish.
