Former Muhlenberg volleyball captain Maria Serina returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach in 2015.
Serina (then Maria Poluka) played for the Mules as an outside hitter in 2001 and 2002, leading the team in digs and earning a spot on the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll both years. She was a member of the 2001 squad that hosted the CC playoffs and served as team co-captain her senior year.
A 2003 graduate of Muhlenberg, Serina compiled a record of 166-27 as head volleyball coach at Nativity B.V.M. High School from 2004 to 2011. She coached the team to five straight district titles and a third-place state finish in 2009, earning the Pottsville Republican's coach of the year honor three times.
Serina is director of the AVA Club in the Lehigh Valley and has instructed at numerous volleyball camps and clinics in the area. She is seventh-grade team leader and founder of the Anti-Bullying Committee at Springhouse Middle School in Allentown.
