Joe Portland joined the Muhlenberg volleyball coaching staff in 2015, bringing considerable playing and coaching experience.
Portland played scholastically at Exeter High School in Reading, helping his team to a county championship and fifth-place state finish in 2010. He then took his talents to West Chester University, playing on and serving as vice-president and president of the men's club team. In 2012, the Rams tied for ninth at the National College Volleyball Federation national tournament.
In 2014, Portland was head coach of the Exeter Township Senior High School boys' team that won a division championship and finished 12-3 overall. He served as an assistant coach for the Muhlenberg High School girls' team from 2012 to 2014 and was a volunteer assistant with the West Chester women's team for one year.
Portland also has coached club teams for boys (Red Rose) and girls (X-Factor) and worked at volleyball camps at the University of Virginia, Villanova University and Delaware YMCA.
