Former Division I runner Kelsey Coates joined the Muhlenberg cross country and track and field coaching staff in 2015.
Coates was a four-year member of the University of Pittsburgh cross country and track and field teams, serving as team captain and helping the Panthers to the 2013 ECAC championship in cross country. She received the Blue & Gold Award as a scholar-athlete.
Coates, who was a member of three state championship cross country teams at nearby Emmaus High School, graduated from Pittsburgh in April 2014 and served as a volunteer assistant cross country coach at Northwestern Lehigh High School that fall.
During her last semester at Pittsburgh, Coates interned at Girls on the Run of Magee-Women's Hospital, assisting with event planning, fundraising and coaching youth girls at two elementary schools. She wrote editorials and conducted research on running shoes and trails while serving as assistant project manager at Runner's World.
Coates is an exercise physiologist and sports performance specialist at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown.
