Dave Weitzman

Dave Weitzman

Dave "Weitie" Weitzman, an assistant for the past two years, was named head women's soccer coach at Muhlenberg in April 2020.

When Weitzman's first scheduled season was cancelled due to the pandemic, the Mules were left with a team of inexperienced players. Muhlenberg began the 2021 season with only seven players who had ever played in a collegiate game, and one was injured in the season opener. The Mules took their lumps early but improved as the season went on, picking up a big road win at regionally ranked Stockton.

In Weitzman's last year as assistant coach, the Mules went 10-7-2 in 2019, reaching double digits in victories for the first time since 2014 and earning a bid to the ECAC Tournament. Muhlenberg won its first two postseason games to advance to the ECAC semifinals.

Weitzman is no stranger to the Varsity Field sidelines, with eight previous seasons (1997-99, 2006-08 and 2016-17) as an assistant men's coach on his resume.

Weitzman has been a coach at various levels for more than 20 years and owns an NSCAA Premier license. He played an integral part in the success of the Lehigh Valley's NPSL (now USL-PDL) FC LVU Sonic in his six seasons as head coach, winning three NPSL conference championships, earning three NPSL "Final Four" berths, winning the 2012 NPSL national championship and losing (in PKs) to the Carolina Dynamo in the 2013 US Amateur finals. His Sonic team, which was ranked No. 1 in the country for all NPSL and PDL teams, also earned three US Open Cup tournaments berths.

The fifth head coach in Muhlenberg women's soccer history, Weitzman also spent four years as a local high school coach at both Parkland (boys) and Whitehall (girls), where he compiled a 72-14-5 record and three of his four teams earned trips to the District XI finals. In 2014, his Whitehall team won the District XI championship, and Weitzman was named the Morning Call and Lehigh Valley Live coach of the year.

Weitzman played at Keystone Junior College, where he earned All-America honors, and at the University of Pittsburgh, from where he graduated in 1995. In 2005, he played on the team that won the silver medal at the Maccabiah World Games in Israel. He also has played for several Lehigh Valley Men's amateur teams.

During his time away from the Muhlenberg pitch, Weitzman was the general manager of the Iron Lakes Sports Dome & Field for 12 years. He also is manager of Penn Fusion Lehigh Valley Soccer Academy and has enjoyed past opportunities working part-time for Kwik Goal as a product consultant, regional sales rep for EDP/MAPS, EPYSA ODP program, men's assistant coach at Lehigh University, regional staff coach for the NSCAA and as a webcast/television analyst for Lehigh and Service Electric Cable TV.

Weitzman has also spent part of his professional life working as an athletic director at the Allentown JCC (1994-97) and as a child care counselor at KidsPeace National Hospital (1997-2005).

Weitzman and his son, Kai, currently reside in the West End of Allentown.
