Muhlenberg College Athletics

Steve Penuel rejoined the Muhlenberg coaching staff for the 2021-22 season. He had previously served as assistant coach from 2002 to 2015 and was part of some of the most successful teams in program history.

During Penuel's first stint, the Mules nearly 75 percent of their games, captured six Centennial Conference championships and advanced to the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament twice. 

Prior to coming to Muhlenberg, Penuel spent four seasons coaching the junior varsity girls' basketball team at nearby Salisbury High School. Previously, he coached youth soccer in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and coached boys' baseball and basketball for over 10 years in his hometown of Pitman, N.J.

A 1975 graduate of Ursinus College, Penuel received the NCAA Medal of Valor and a commendation from President Nixon after he helped rescue people from a burning building while on a basketball trip.
