About Scotty Wood

The origins of the Scotty Wood Duals go back more than 70 years to 1947. Milton W. “Scotty” Wood’s small sandwich shop in Allentown, called the Home Restaurant, became a regular dining establishment for the Muhlenberg College basketball team, which often finished practice too late to eat dinner on campus. Scotty, who always had a soft spot for athletes, would feed the Muhlenberg Mules for free.
Through the close relationship he established with the team’s players and coaches, Scotty was asked by then-College president Levering Tyson to manage the campus dining service. That was the beginning of Wood Dining Services, which went on to serve millions of meals to college students, hospital and retirement home residents, as well as physicians, educators and business people throughout the Lehigh Valley. In April of 2001, Wood Dining Services joined Sodexo.
As a tribute to his father and his ties with Muhlenberg College, Scotty’s son, Bob Wood, initiated the Scotty Wood Basketball Tournament in 1984. Wrestling was added to the Scotty Wood Weekend slate in 2016.
Scotty Wood passed away at the age of 89 on June 18, 2003. If he was here today he would say, “May the best team win – Go Muhlenberg!”
