The Muhlenberg Mules won the second set, but the visiting Greyhounds claimed the other three and the Sodexo Cup by a score of 3-1 Tuesday evening.
After a rough first set by both squads went to the visitors, the Mules came out determined in round two. The game started out 4-4 until the hosts went on a 10-3 run led by
Lizzie Steinkamp and
Ansley Asche, who recorded three and two kills during that stretch, respectively. That second set was a big one for the freshman, who tallied five of her 11 total putaways during the bout.
Abigail Oswari (pictured) had three of her team-high 12 kills during that second set as well.
Muhlenberg extended its lead to a match-high eight later in the set at 23-15, but the visitors answered right back, going on an 8-1 run of their own to bring the game to within one at 24-23. The Mules took advantage of a Greyhound service error to prevent the comeback on the very next point.
Andrea Romero-Agosto totaled nine kills and led the Mules with one total block, the culmination of an effective night at the net for the sophomore.
Maddy Budris paced the hosts with 22 assists while Oswari finished with a double-double, adding 13 digs to her 12 kills.
Emma Laskaj led Muhlenberg with 15 digs as well.
