The Muhlenberg women's soccer team made it two 2-1 wins in 24 hours with a dramatic victory at DeSales.
Sophomore
Jaidyn Falcone put in the winning goal with just 39 seconds remaining to give the Mules their first 2-0 start since 2019.
The winning goal was set up when junior
Devon Cheeseman won a ball in the Bulldogs' side of the field and passed to freshman
Pia DiGregorio, who sent a square ball just outside the box to senior
Kaela MacDougall.
After netting her first career goal in the season-opening win against Stevenson, MacDougall
(pictured above) made a bid for two in two days, one-timing a shot that the DeSales goalie had to leap to save with her fingertips. She tipped the ball right to the right foot of Falcone, who directed it into the open net for her second goal in as many days.
It was the first game-winning goal in the last minute of regulation for the Mules since 2013, when Susan Galgano scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win at Dickinson with just 15 seconds remaining.
Falcone is the first Muhlenberg played to score a goal in each of the first two games of a season since 2012, and the first to do so in two wins since 2008.
The Mules jumped on top in the 27th minute off a set piece. After the DeSales goalie came off her line to punch out the free kick, DiGregorio collected the rebound and passed to sophomore
Ava Millan, whose high shot beat the retreating goalie to the goal line. It was the third career goal for Millan and the first career point for DiGregorio, who has played a role in three of Muhlenberg's first four goals this season.
The Bulldogs (1-1) tied the game early in the second half and took 11 more shots, but senior
Megan Stairs made three saves to keep the score tied and set the stage for Falcone's heroics.
