The Muhlenberg men's soccer team picked up a huge Centennial Conference road win, blanking Swarthmore 3-0.
The Mules (4-4-1, 2-1), who have scored nine goals in their last two midweek games, won at Swarthmore for the second straight time after not recording a win there between 2007 and 2023. Their last three-goal win at Swarthmore came in 2005.
Muhlenberg scored its first goal after a long diagonal cross from the wing by freshman
Alexander Nguyen, who was making his first career start, was headed over the line by Swarthmore (2-6-2, 1-2) for a corner kick. Freshman
Jake Cooke, making his second career start, sent a line drive to the far post that short-hopped a Garnet defender and went into the net for an own goal.
Late in the first half, senior
Danny Patruno stepped up to win a ball in the midfield, passing it to classmate
Gabe Blikshteyn, who battled with a Swarthmore player to keep possession. Blikshteyn passed to senior
Eric Armijos, who dribbled down the left sideline and slotted a pass into the box. Junior
Saleem Diakite ran onto to the ball, then beat the goalie near side for his third goal in the last three games.
Armijos
(pictured above) added a second assist midway through the second half, running down a long ball that went off the head of a Swarthmore defender and feeding Cooke for his first career goal.
Sophomore
Nico Famularo made four saves, including a couple in the first five minutes, in recording his second shutout in three CC starts.
