Summer Check-In: Danny Cullen

Muhlenberg athletes are spending the summer of 2026 enjoying fantastic experiences on campus, in their hometowns, across the country, and even around the world.

Danny Cullen, a rising senior finance major on the Mule football team, is applying concepts he learned in class in a real corporate setting as a second-year financial analyst intern at Diamond Communications.

This summer, I've been working as a financial analyst intern within the strategic partnership team at Diamond Communications, a massive player in the wireless infrastructure space. This is actually my second summer with the company, which has been great for building stronger relationships with my coworkers.

My time at Muhlenberg definitely prepared me to hit the ground running. My finance and computer science courses, along with the discipline of being on the football team, built the foundational skills I need to succeed. My brother, who also works on the strategic partnership team, was a huge help in securing this internship, even though he went to Franklin & Marshall, our big Centennial Conference rival. Luckily, my close friend and football teammate Matthew Manning '26 is starting here full-time, so it's going to be great to finally have the Mules outnumber F&M!

On a day-to-day basis, my main focus is finding unique opportunities for tower locations where major carriers can co-locate and improve their coverage capabilities. While diving into competitive analysis can sometimes feel repetitive, it's really cool to see how the data we work with directly impacts where physical cell towers go up and how people stay connected.

What I've enjoyed most is seeing how concepts I learn in class translate into real corporate strategy. It's incredibly rewarding to analyze industry data, spot a strategic opportunity for a new tower location, and see how that data turns into an actual live project. Plus, collaborating closely with the full-time strategic partnership team has taught me a ton about what it takes to succeed in this field.

Another highlight of the summer has been attending the weekly intern sessions. Learning about the different branches of the business has shown me how every department connects to make the company run. On top of that, we had an awesome team lunch-and-learn on the Friday before Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The whole office wore sports gear, and as a massive basketball fan, I had to wear my Jalen Brunson jersey. The Knicks ended up winning the championship that weekend, so celebrating the win with everyone and enjoying the office banter really showed me how welcoming and collaborative the culture is here.

This summer has been an incredible stepping stone, and I'm excited to bring everything I've learned back to campus for senior year!
