Mules Run Wild in Sweep of Shorewomen

The Muhlenberg softball team celebrated Senior Day in style, totaling 13 stolen bases and 29 hits in a sweep of the Washington College Shorewomen.

The Mules took advantage of a soft-tossing Washington College pitching staff early on in game one, scoring 13 runs on 13 hits over the first three innings en route to a 14-2 win. In all they totaled 15 hits and nine stolen bases, the latter of which was a season high. A quartet of Mules did much of the heavy lifting on offense: Ava Storlazzi, Lillie Teague, Morgan Bobrowski, and Scooter Hulsen all had three hits apiece and combined to drive in 11 of the team's 14 runs. Teague and Bobrowski each finished with four runs batted in and the Mules' hurler also belted a pair of doubles.

With ace Bobrowski in the circle, the game was never in doubt after the Mules ended the second inning with a 7-0 lead. The only Shorewoman to cross the plate against her did so as a result of a defensive miscue, and the sophomore struck out more batters (four) than allowed hits (one). Josie Krieman came in in the fourth and tossed a scoreless frame and Samantha Fehrenbach closed it out in the fifth.

Muhlenberg notched 14 hits in the nightcap but finished with just six runs due to a few factors. Only one of those hits was for extra bases (a one-out double by Sofia Gallahue in the first inning). The hosts were also the victim of inning-ending double plays in the third and the fourth. Still, they made the visitors field their positions throughout both contests; no Mule struck out the entire day.

Eden Clark got the start and increased her scoreless streak to 12.2 innings before allowing a run with two outs in the third. That was the lone tally the freshman would allow over six strong frames. Clark struck out five batters while walking just two en route to earning her ninth win of the season.

Storlazzi's four hit day is the continuation of an excellent week for the sophomore. Since regaining her spot in the batting order on Thursday against Elizabethtown, she's gone 8-for-12 and scored six runs. She's raised her season-long average from .378 to .449 in those four games.

After adding three base knocks to her career total today, Teague is now just four away from reaching the 100-hit mark.

Prior to the game, the team honored a few alumni as well as their three seniors: Hulsen, Maddy Svenningsen, and Sophia Jacobson.
