Pitching the Difference as Mules Split With Royals

The Muhlenberg Mules split Thursday's afternoon doubleheader with the visiting Scranton Royals, taking the first game 9-1 but falling 4-1 in the nightcap.

Peri Kahn was the first to cross the plate for the Mules in game one; the sophomore ripped a double into left field and would later score on an infield single by Josie Hoffacker. A bases loaded error then plated two more runners a few batters later, giving Muhlenberg a 3-0 lead.

That was all starter Morgan Bobrowski would need, as the three-time Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week allowed just one run over five innings of work to pick up her seventh win of the season. The Royals mustered one well-hit ball against the sophomore, a leadoff triple that led to their only tally.

After taking the lead in the third, the hosts poured it on over the next two frames, plating four in the fourth and two more in the fifth to finish it off. For the game, Hoffacker, Izzy Wilmot (pictured), and Hailey Godin all recorded two hits and combined for six runs scored (Godin three, Hoffacker two, and Wilmot one). Hoffacker and Wilmot each drove in two runners as well.

The Mules found themselves on the other side of the script in the latter half of the twin bill. They managed seven hits off the Royals' starter, but only one of those was for extra bases, and only in the seventh did the hosts manage to string two back-to-back. Down 4-0, Sofia Gallahue led off the final frame with a two-strike single to left field. Scooter Hulsen followed with a first-pitch double that brought home Gallahue, but the senior was thrown out trying to advance to third on the throw.

Eden Clark entered in relief of starter Abigail Kim, who went 3+ innings while letting up three runs. After a shaky start to her appearance, Clark settled in, recording eight of her 12 outs via strikeout en route to allowing one run over four innings of work. Only one of the 17 batters she faced managed to reach the outfield grass.
