Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Throws "D" on DeSales

After squandering an early four-goal lead, the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team turned up the defense at DeSales, going on to even its record with a 13-7 win.

The Mules (2-2) scored the first four goals of the game in just a little over six minutes, but the Bulldogs (0-4) rallied to tie the game with a minute left in the first quarter, netting four goals in just under seven minutes.

Goals were much harder to come by for DeSales for the rest of the game. Over the next 37 minutes, Muhlenberg allowed only one goal, and that came just as time was expiring in the first half. The Mules scored eight goals themselves during that time, pulling away to score their first win at DeSales since 2005.

Senior Jace Riley Day made 10 saves, hitting double figures for the fourth consecutive game. Junior Brendan Boyd caused a pair of turnovers and picked up a career-high 5 ground balls, while sophomore Jack Paris also caused 2 turnovers.

Three players combined to score 11 of the Mules' 13 goals, with sophomore Luc Belvill (4), freshman Parker Kusko (4), and junior Flynn Decker (3) all setting career highs in goals. Belvill recorded a natural hat trick in the second quarter, turning the 4-4 tie into a 7-4 Muhlenberg lead.

Junior Chase Kusko assisted on 5 of the goals, notching his fifth career game of at least 5 assists - a feat accomplished only five other times in program history. Kusko moved into second place on the Mules' all-time assists list with 80 for his career and also jumped from sixth to fourth on the all-time points list, with 124.

Three of Chase's assists went to younger brother Parker. Even though Muhlenberg has featured several brother combos throughout its modern history, when Chase assisted Parker on the third goal of the game, it was the first time that one brother assisted another on a goal.

Freshman Trey Marcinko recorded his first career point by assisting sophomore Ryan Schmitz on the Mules' second-to-last goal.

Freshman Seth Frankford (pictured above) gave the Mules a big lift on faceoffs in his first game in that role, winning his first five and finishing 6-for-9 with 4 ground balls.
